Mettur Dam is located in Mettur, Salem district of Tamilnadu.

Stanley Reservoir is one of the huge fishing reservoirs in south India.
Mettur Dam is one of the Dams constructed across the river Kaveri.
Mettur Dam is built in the year 1934.
Dam construction work starts on 20th July 1925. Construction work completes on 21st May 1934. It takes 9 years to complete.
The maximum height and width of the dam are 214 and 171 feet
Col W.M.Ellis is called ad Royal engineer for his design of the Mettur dam
Mettur Dam was constructed under an Irish engineer, Vincent Hart, who was also the chief engineer.
The total length of the mettur dam is 1700 meters (5600 feet),176 feet (54 meters) high and its maximum storage capacity is 93.4tmc ft.
The main purpose of the Mettur dam is to provide irrigation facilities for nearly 3 lakh acres of farmland in parts of Salem, Erode, Namakkal, Karur, Tiruchirappalli, and Thanjavur district and power generation, chemical manufacturing, and aluminium production.
