The fourth month in the Tamil Calendar Aadi marks the beginning of the Monsoon in Tamil Nadu

அம்மனுக்கு உகந்த மாதம் ஆடி மாதம்

Aadi Month  begins on July 16 and ends on August 17

A few important festivals celebrated by Hindu peoples

Weddings or other related events are not celebrated during  Aadi Month

Hindu people consider Aadi Month inauspicious

Many women keep Fasting during Aadi Month

Aadi  Festivals

  1. ஆடி பிறப்பு – Aadi Pirappu
  2. ஆடி செவ்வாய் – Aadi Sevvai 
  3. Aadi velli-ஆடி  வெள்ளி 
  4. ஆடி கிருத்திகை – Aadi Krithigai
  5. – Aadi Perukku-ஆடிப் பெருக்கு
  6. ஆடி அமாவாசை- Aadi Amavasai(New moon day of Aadi Month)
  7. Last Friday of Aadi Month

Aadi Pirappu(ஆடி 1 )  is celebrated on the first day of the Aadi month

Pandigai especially for newly-weds-new groom in the family is invited to the Brides house, the couple is gifted with new dresses

Newly-weds were kept apart  to avoid pregnancy during this month because the baby’s birth during April and May climate is extremely hot and not suitable for the mother and baby child

The inflow of water in Rivers is likely to increase during this Aadi Month

Tamil people  make Coconut roasting on this day 

Coconut roasting contains lentils, a mixture of rice, jaggery

(தேங்காய் சுடுதல்)தேங்காயின் கண்ணில் அழிஞ்சி குச்சி குத்தி தேங்காய்க்குள் இனிப்புகள் சேர்த்து சூட்டு சுவாமிக்கு பூஜை செயவார்கள்

ஆடி 18-ஆடி பெருக்கு-Pathinettam Perukku-Aadi Perukku

ஆடி பெருக்கு (Aadi Perukku ) is one of the important festivals for farmers

Pathinettam Perukku is also called as Aadi perukku

Aadi perukku especially a Tamil state festival  celebrated on the 18th day of the Tamil month Aadi

The 18th day of Aadi month is celebrated as Aadi perukku

Aadi Perukku is a festival mainly observed by families living on the banks of River Cauvery

Family Members collectively pray for the large supply of water, that would ultimately result in a good harvest in the upcoming season

Farmers pray Mother Cauvery in the form of Amman on that day

Farmers start the sowing process towards the next farming season

Month Aadi is favorable for rooting, sowing, and planting seeds

Aadi perukku (ஆடிப்பெருக்கு) brings prosperity and wealth
